Hi there
I've been reading all your comments about 300. I had resolved to go and see it but I really wanted to see it with certain people (Greek friends etc) to get into it more. Then friends piked; didn't want to see it at the cinema but wanted to wait for the DVD, so I decided not to see it and spend all that money, when I wasn't even sure I'd like it much. (Someone here said it was a cross between Gladiator, Lord of the Rings and Matrix - I gasped; they were exactly my thoughts of the promo).
So anyway, here I was, contentedly waiting for the DVD to come out, not expecting anything great and now I come to this site and read all of what you guys have written about it and the transcendental cinema experiences associated with it and ... well...
... I need consolation. I'm not happy.
(Nice to be here though; you all sound really nice).
ZHTO OI SPARTIATES! ZHTO H ELLAS!
(Long live the Spartans; long live Greece). |

17th of September is the day that orientation or "freshers" week begins at Manchester university and official classes will comence the following week. So the '300' DVD release in the UK is timed to coincide with my first day at university. What a coincidence! And if you think that I decided to apply for a Master's degree which has to do with Ancient World, I'm very happy for this coincidence. My 'new' life begins with the first day at university and the first night watching '300' again. I did enjoy it a lot watching it at the cinema.
But I have to be honest and say that this...weird decision of mine (I'm not 18 years old) has to do with ALEXANDER, both the movie and the Great man in history. Now I understand that I made a mistake and I studied the wrong subject. But, it's never late, is it?
So here I am... a university student again at my age!
Yes Alita, "Long live Alexander; Long live the Spartans" |

Not only is it never too late to study at university, I think most people can get a lot more out of it at a later (non-tween) age. It's funny: I hated history at school and I didn't fully appreciate university while I was there. Now I find history fascinating. I totally understand where you're coming from. I think you'll really enjoy uni and you're really lucky to be involved in something that truly excites you. All the best with it. |

So you will be at Manchester Uni....Northern England will be full of Alexandrians...! The Course sounds very exciting, will you be doing one of the *** studies?.
Personally, I wouldn't mind working at Nottingham's Centre for Spartan and Peloponnesian Studies...!
