There a new movie called "300" and it's based on the battle at Thermopylae, it's not been released where I live but I was just wondering if anyone else's seen it and if so what you think of it!
Love,

I have some information on my site about this film.
The film will not be released until March 2007, so no one has seen it yet.
We will see what people think once it is released. It does look interesting, thats for sure!

I can't wait to see it. I'm a history freak. But, I want to say here that I would prefer to see a movie on Leonidas and his 300 adapted from Steven Pressfield's book " GATES OF FIRE ". I liked it very much and so did my son and his friends (the Military Academy boys) who were made to read it by him . No regrets! Everybody liked it.
" This is my shield.
I bear it before me into battle,
but it is not mine alone.
It protects my brother on my left.
It protects my city.
I will never let my brother
out of its shadow
nor my city out of its shelter.
I will die with my shield before me
facing the enemy."
(...sigh....isn't it beautiful? ) |

I also can't wait to see it! But I definately think it's more of a 'comic book' movie than a 'historical' movie, from what I've seen. |

Hi,
300 does have it's comic/fantasy element, but as Leonidas points out there is some very good action in there. I am looking forward to seeing this....
The film will also raise more public awareness of King Leonidas, Dienekes (the rather tasty one who says....'then we shall fight them in the shade') and the other brave Spartans and Thespians who fought against such overwealming odds...
However, there will have to be some public re-education about authentic Spartan arms and armour......and the fact that Leonidas was a little more advanced in years than Gerald Butler at the time....
regards

The release date in Italy is 23 March or 6 April? Does anybody know?
I saw both dates on the net. One must be the correct date (not necessarily, it could be a third one ) |

Hi Yanna,
that is 'comic' as in paper.... the kranoi/helms and panoplies are as Frank Miller designed them for the comic book, rather than using more authentic looking ones etc
300 Comic
AncientHoplitikonSpartans and have a look here SpartanWorld The left hand Spartan aspis/shield has the solar wheel design said to be used by Leonidas and that is how the Spartans at Thermopylae would have looked. The right hand warrior is post Thermopylae wearing the Pilos helm.
Drawing and article ...Spartan sheild designs

IMDb has 23rd March listed
300 Official site Nice picture of Dienekes in the Gallery...
However, i've liked Gerald Butler in both Beowulf and Attila....and he looks good in this too...!
Best wishes

I saw one of the trailers again and my fears are confirmed.
Too much fantasy; so let's hope it won't turn out to be... too comical . I'll be disappointed.
About Gerald, I think they have aged him enough to match the real Leonidas. " This is Sparta"!!! Very funny the way he says that, but I like it. I do hope I like the rest of the film, too. The soundrack( I heard part of it, of course) is not bad. |
