Smile Confused
Dear Magika,
Thank you for the beautiful picture of that 'larnyx box' I love it. But what is a larnyx box anyway, probably a stupid question, but I've never heard of one.
Thanks again,
Larry

Very Happy
Dear Magika,
Thanks again for educating me. One learns something new every day and that's what keeps us 'alive'. Once you stop learning, you're dead....
I'll bet Philip's bones are resting in peace, since he's in such a beautiful receptical.

Trendafil? What does that mean in your language? Where is the word derived from?
I'm just curious, because "triantafilo" means "rose" in Greek.
It's from the word "trianta" which means "thirty" and "filo" which means "leaf".
However the flower in question looks nothing like a rose to me, then again, I'm not much of a bottanist. Wink

...which is an indication that the modern Slavic language of the Republic has assimilated many Greek words into its volcabulary.

Good observation Salonika, and the flower is on the poster, so the flower's name discussion is valid.

Yes but it is just a poster for a movie, and not an official one.

Yes, but we can still discuss it's concept.
I mean if you want to get technical, the flag should be just plain red with nothing on it, because flags back then were simply for signaling, and held no meaning behind them.

Yes that is correct, maybe a flag wasn't appropriate for the poster, but they wanted to put the symbol of the macedonians somewhere to make the poster more apealing, but a nice poster though.

And i think they had banners, (roman-like with the eagle), and i think they had a rams head on the macedonian banner, and not the sun-burst, which was located only on there shields and other decorative objects and even tombstones.

trivial, but anyhow-the sun symbol derives from the story (reported by herodotus)of the sun's reflection(and it is usdd in phillip's grave),it was a symbol of the dynasty.

the flower is a triantafyllo(thirty leaves),and the eagle was also used as a symbol(it was used in coins too,its zeus' eagle, also found at dion)
