According to Michael Wood's website we can expect a new documentary about Alexander from him.

This is what it says :

Michael is currently abroad filming for his latest project searching for the lost site of Alexander the Great's most epic and important battle - The Battle of Gaugamela.

Having thoroughly enjoyed his 'In the Footsteps of Alexander the Great' documentary I, for one, am looking forward to this.

It was not possible for him to film on location in Iraq, back when he made the series, but since then a lot has happened. In his series 'India' he managed to fly over Gaugamela and now it seems he may actually be filming on location.

Hi Suzanne.
So Michael Wood is having another crack at an Alexander documentary? That's very good news. Very Happy
I have one reservation though. Last time he gave us the view according to Curtius and I felt it wasn't a fairly balanced picture of Alexander's character and motivations. Paranoid alcoholic? No I don't think so! Ignoring Arrian in order to produce a more sensational picture might have been better tv but didn't do Alexander any favours.

So, let's hope he gets Gaugamela right. If he concentrates on the generalship surely he must. Looking forward to it. Thanks for the info.

I bet you enjoyed Athens! Cool

Hello to everyone else. Sorry I'm not here much but you're not forgotten.

Janie

I hope they use some of the film.
I seem to remember there was a gap in the narrative of "In The Footsteps Of Alexander" where MW had to fly over Gaugamela because it wasn't accessible and too dangerous. Presumably that's why he's gone back now things are a bit more settled.
I'm looking forward to this one! Smile

Nor me! I like MW's enthusiasm. Smile

I have a terrible feeling though that an age ago the reading group condemned him to be dragged around Troy behind a chariot like Achilles dragged Hector. And I think we just forgot to go and untie him. Shocked Laughing
