Sony Classical has announced that the soundtrack for Alexander by Vangelis will be released on October 19th.
Here is the link to Vangelis' site, which has the press release.

Just thought some of you might be interested. I know I am interested in hearing what Vangelis wrote for this film. I am sure it will be good.

If all of the soundtrack is as good as this one, then Vangelis could be in line for an Oscar.

i agree! this sounds perfect. my only problem with it (not a big issue, but i did notice it) is the synthesizer quality. still, sweeping and glorious, as it ought to be. |

I had heard that somewhere before. I"ve also heard that some advertising for Alexander will be timed with the games for obvious reasons. |

Like the film the release of the 'Alexander' soundtrack has been delayed until November 9th, according to www.alexandersoundtrack.com.
You can hear a sample of another one of the pieces on the soundtrack at: http://www.techcomforces.com/alexander.html
The piece is called "Roxane's Veil" (the name was just recently changed from "Roxanne's Veil" to "Roxane's Veil" according to the Vangelis site) and it is a colaboration between Vangelis and violinist Vanessa Mae. It also turns up on her CD called "Choreography".
It truly is a beautiful piece of music. I loved it. If the rest of the CD is like this, I think we may be in for a real treat.
So click on the link and enjoy!

You are welcome! I really like it too, zoe. I have been listening to it alot, myself.
It has such a beautiful and sensual quality about it. I am not sure if they are using it for a dance sequence for Roxane or for Alexander & Roxane's wedding night, maybe?
Either way, I think it will work well wherever they put it. It is lovely!!

I love the 'end titles' excerpt ... I play it until my sister yells at me to 'Turn that bloody music off!' . However, I'm assuming the film will end with his death, so in a way I'm dreading getting to this bit. |

cool! thanks
the listing is really interesting - the theory I posted in the trailer thread about the movie being non linear looks correct! If this is the correct track order?
"One Morning at Pella" is AFTER the first battle.... and "Roxane's Dance" BEFORE "Gardens of Delight" - which I assume is babylon...
How is Stone editting this movie???? He's all over the place!!!! |

Stone might change the order things happen, for example he might have Alexander meet Roxane earlier than he really did because he wanted Rosario to have a bigger part, who knows.
It could also just be that the soundtrack is in no particular order. |

yeah!!! maybe???
All signs are pointing to very non linear - the flash backs from ptolomy, the trailer all non linear (not a big indication - but enough), the synopsis on the official site says the story begins with "his launch invasion from macendonia" - when we know his early life will have a big focus.... and now the soundtrack..
Plus the biggest clue is Stone is directing - it won't just be straight forward - its almost guaranteed with him!!!
We'll just have to wait!!!

Sony Music has just put 30 second samples of most of the soundtrack, on their website.
Here is the link:

Give it a listen. I really liked a lot of what I heard. I think you might, too. I can't wait to hear the whole thing.
Here is a picture of the soundtrack cover (it is the same as the official movie poster).
