Alexander will always be ALEXANDER THE GREAT with any colour of his hair. The colour is unimportant.

Very true...!
I have no doubt however, that if and when his body is found, somebody will be demanding to know what colour his hair was... Laughing

You are both so Cool right Cool
Imagine if Alexander were alive today, what he would say. Don't you think he'd be really flattered to know that he has become so famous that people the world over are even getting together on special forums to argue about the colour of his hair?

Side note to Joanna: I'm writing this here because for some reason private messaging has been disabled on the board. I'm going to be in Greece from 14 March until summer. Are you visiting Peloponneso in that time by any chance? It would be great to meet. Very Happy

Greetings,

I understand your feelings about the lack of concern about hair colour. That said, I also understand why it comes up frequently for debate. I am not saying it is *necessary* for debate, nor even of great import.. but since people often equate Alexander's hair colour with his bloodlines, the issue becomes one of political import to people, who must needs have their version of the man suit the current political reality.

On the other hand, discussing hair colour becomes interesting- to some of us- when it leads to a discussion about the contemporary paintings and mosaics from the time of Alexander, art as strategic propoganda (yes, even in Alexander's time and beyond) and more.

I still recommend Andrew Stewart's book, Faces of Power, and Margrete Bieber's book, Alexander the Great in Greek and Roman Art.

Regards,
Sikander

I will have to say that he was light, light in every way. Light brown hair I'm sure.
Besides, we have to remember that he was the son of a god so he was supposed to be different from everyone else Wink
