It should not disturb you that Stone's movie honestly depicts the love between Alexander and Hephaistion. Love is love. Not a problem. It's all good.

Alexander was only tamed by Hephaistion's thighs, they say. I think this is beautiful and it's about time we had a hero who had some depth and intrigue. And one who wasn't just like all 5 million other heroes we've been spoonfed all our lives.

If it was not frowned upon then..... well in order to produce a decent recreation of it then Farrell better be prepared to do a bit of guy on guy!! That should shock the masses!

But yes I think he was bi. Bent enough to sleep with his best friend for how ever long and straight enough to sleep with enougth beautiful women for 10 men's beds!

Colin Farrell has a gay brother so he is not bothered by kissing and getting intimate with a man like someone who has never even seen this before would be. Farrell is the ultimate cool straight guy.

I just hope the movie doesn't try to heterosexualize Alexander - as the film's trailer sure makes it look like it is doing.

Katalin,

All you have to do is read any of the accounts of Alexander's life and you see that Alexander was bisexual. I have recently read about 20 books about Alexander, and it's clear: You have to approach the subject DETERMINED NOT TO BELIEVE that Alexander was bi to think anything else. He had a multiple wives, but spent minimal energy on them. Clearly they were just used to cement his power and influence across the kingdom, and used in hopes of producing a successor to his throne. His real LOVES were Hephaestion and Bagoas. For centuries there was a famous saying about how Alexander was conquered only by Hephaestion's thighs. And his mourning after the death of Hephaestion may just be THE most enormous and incredible show of love the world has ever seen.

All accounts of Alexander's travels tell the story of Bagoas winning a contest at a huge celebration, whereupon the Macedonian soldiers all chanted "Kiss him! Kiss him! Kiss him!" until Alexander planted a big, romantic kiss on the beautiful Bagoas. However, while Alexander loved Bagoas and found him beautiful, his life-long soul-mate was definitely Hephaestion. Hephaestion and Bagoas both understood that they each served an important role in Alexander's life, but that Hephaestion was his Number One Guy.

What does that have to do with anything? It's his brother that's gay - not Colin, so why do you think that makes him ok being intimate with someone of the same sex?

I agree it is less likely to make him homophobic but I don't think having a gay brother automatically means it is easier to kiss or be intimate with another man. Just think its a bit of an irrelevant fact - I'm sure he could act equally as well if his brother was straight. There are plenty of straight actors who play gay/bi roles - do they have a gay brother? Just my 2 cents worth anyway.

Hi All,
My interpretation of sex, and it's various orientations, is: as long as it's not interferring with me and my rights and freedoms, then don't worry about it. Of course, do it in private, too!! And, any kind of pedophelia should merit jail time and mandatory psychological help.
Whether Alexander was homosexual or not, or just bisexual is really not important in today's world. Men seemed to screw anything back then and probably still do, if the truth were told. If he and Hephaestion hug and kiss in the movie, good for them; and if Bagaos and Alexander are shown naked in bed, well OK, boys!!!!! And then, to balance it all out, Alexander should be shown on his wedding night with Roxane, just like that painting in another thread. Well, that's what I'd do for the movie; it sure would start a big dialogue, wouldn't it?????? But then, of course, I'm really not producing this film, am I?????? Pity.....
And, Colin wouldn't really have any problems playing the role. He is an actor and a pretty open-minded liberal person, anyway; and would probably love the shock value of it all........
Well, that's my rant for the day>>>
Regards,
Larry

so what the big deal ? u wanna see 2 men fornicate in some tent in persia ? dont expect any explicit scenes.

i know for sure that Oliver Stone is not type to shy away from homosexual scenes. he's already filmed scenes like in Midnight Express

but someone said that Hollywood is Homophobic.

So please explain Midnight Express and its Academy Award Winner

Hi Rhemy,
If your last post about men fornicating in a tent is refering to what I wrote previously, then I protest that that is not what I meant.
I do not wish to see explicit porn in this movie. I stated that A. & H. might hug and/or kiss and that A. & B. be shown naked in bed only, implying perhaps past fornication or future activity. Not the actual act, thank you, very much.
Hope this clarifies my intentions!!
Larry

I just thought this might be a good place to point out that the Ancient Greeks would have thought a homosexual or a heterosexual a freak of nature.

And as for me, I hope there's at least lots of bare chest kissing between Alexander and Hesphestion.....I don't really care what you guys want. Besides, Ollie Stone isn't known for giving people what they want, just what he thinks will shock them.
